Chinese from New South Wales in Australia celebrated the 60th National Day of China in front of the Sydney Opera House on September 6.
The event lasted for three hours with about 5000 local residents watching 24 art programs performed by artists from Chongqing, local Chinese and even some Australians.
Prime Minister Rudd sent his wishes via his special representative. In the message of congratulation, he recollected the history of friendship between Australia and China, and stressed strengthening the relationship is vital.
Rudd also appreciated the great progress of China since 1949, especially since the Reform and Opening-up 30 years ago. He said Chinese in Australia are a key link between the two countries in terms of business, culture and friendship.
Wang Guozhong, the initiator of the China National Day Celebration Committee in Australia, said that it was the first time that Chinese from New South Wales joined together for the celebration of China’s anniversary. In the event, 60 dancing lions started to perform at the same time with the drum roll.
