The 2014 conference of the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC) was held in Hong Kong on Sept 22. On the opening ceremony of the conference, Sarah Staniforth, chairman of IIC, awarded “Forbes Prize”- the top honor in international cultural relics protection - to Shan Jixiang, president of the Palace Museum and China Cultural Relics Academy, to recognize his outstanding achievements and contribution. Shan is the first Chinese to receive the honor.

Held every two years, the international conference has become one of the most important international events in the field since 1960s. The five-day event attracted about 400 experts and scholars from 30 countries and regions to discuss the theme of the conference: Repair of East Asian Art Heritage and Cultural Heritage.
