Long a trade route that connected cultures and civilizaions across the globe, the ancient silk road is coming back to life and doing what it does best, but through a more modern channel. Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province and the starting point of the ancient Silk Road is about to host a major film extravaganza.
The first Silk Road International Film Festival is set to open in the ancient city on October 20th. Forty-one films will be competing for the festival's top honors, including 10 Chinese entries and 31 foreign productions.
The list includes "An End to Killing", which covers the legendary life of Genghis Khan, "People Searching Story of Cola Lee" adapted from Chinese writer Li Chengpeng's novel of the same name and "Song of the Phoenix". Also a total of 144 films from 24 countries are scheduled to be screened during the festival.
