UNESCO signed a memorandum a few days ago with Xi’an Datang West City Culture Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd. on their cooperation to set up the Silk Road Cultural Center.
The cultural center, financed by Datang West City Group Co., Ltd., will provide a normalized venue for cultural exchanges and cooperation, exhibitions, and meetings held by UNESCO. Its construction will feature the themes of “peace and sustainable development” and “cross-cultural dialogue”. UNESCO will offer guidance to the project construction and give assistance to the organization of various cultural exchange activities.
Hans d'Orville, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO, said that the Ancient Silk Road used to be a symbol of mutual communication and friendship among different countries and the New Silk Road would have more cultural connotations.
