The 2014 Canada China Tibetan Culture Week kicked off in Vancouver on Nov 2. More than 300 overseas Chinese and local distinguished personages attended the opening ceremony. Young performers from the Tibetan Shannan Song and Dance Troupe performed Tibetan opera and Tibetan traditional dances in costumes for the audience.
Culture week will be held until Nov 15 in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto, comprising a variety of artistic activities such as The Splendor of Tibet, a song and dance performance, The Image of Tibet film showcase, Inspiring Tibet Thangka exhibition, the Reading Tibet book fair and Listening to Tibet exchange meeting of Tibetologists and Tibetan medicine experts.
The Thangka exhibition features 45 pieces of Thangka works with modern Tibetan themes and three Tibet-themed films that will be screened at the film showcase. Roof of the World, one of the three screened films, is a documentary about the challenges faced by people living in high altitude areas and their tenacity and wisdom dealing with the hard natural conditions.
