It is the second time China has held Tibet-themed cultural activities in Canada and the culture week aims to offer Canadian people a glimpse of Tibetan scenery, culture and economic development. Dorje Tsedrub, vice chairman of the people's government of the Tibet autonomous region, said that Tibetan Culture Week would promote Canadians’ understanding of Tibet and deepen the friendship between China and Canada.
Culture week is co-hosted by the State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China, People’s Government of Tibet autonomous region, and consulate-general of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver.
Tibet is the highest region on earth, with an average elevation of 4,900 meters and is known as the “Roof of the World”. It is home to people of Tibetan ethnic group as well as some other ethnic groups such as the Monpas, Qiang and Lhobas, which gives Tibet a strong ethnic feature.
Tibetan Culture Week has toured over 11 countries since 2001, including Australia, Germany and Spain, and is well-liked by local audiences all over the world. It has become a popular event to show the world the real China under the leadership of the Chinese government.
