北宋佚名作品《子母猴》立轴 Unknown work: (The Monkey Mother and Her Son)

Transaction price: 362million yuan

Date of sale: 2011-06-09

Auction house: BeijingJiuge Auction

A painting from the North Song Dynasty (960-1127) set an auction record at 362 million yuan ($57.49m USD) of unknown works in Beijing. This work spread orderly by some collectors from the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty(1644-1911) until now. It is very popular among collectors even though it’s an unknown work. This was opposite of the normal behavior where markets pursue works of famous people blindly. We could see it as evidence of art collection becoming more rational, because the collectors can make comprehensive judgments from the artistic value and historic value of the works.
