American Hyland Lyon took nearly 3,000 invaluable photographs of the Battle of Shanghai, which has become a legend in the history of photography. Many of these photos have been sealed for more than 80 years, and will appear at the China Guardian 2015 Spring Auctions.
The Battle of Shanghai was one of the largest and bloodiest battles between China and Japan during the Anti-Japanese War. There haven’t been more than 1,000 photos of this battle published in China so far. However, Hyland Lyon’s photos far outnumbered the published pictures for his special position and experience.
