 The painting depicted the widely loved scenery from Cataract on Mount Lu, which is a well-known poem by Li Po. Li Po wrote the poem when he travelled to Mountain Lu, describing the waterfall there as ‘飞流直下三千尺，疑是银河落九天’, which means, ‘Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high; As if the Silver River fell from azure sky’. Once the painter Fu Baoshi travelled to Jingpo Lake, the waterfall under the sunshine reminded him of Li Po’s poem, so he painted the scenery as a tribute to the great poet. This painting sold for 14,950,000 yuan at the China Guardian 2014 Spring Auctions.
