Looking for a Recluse but Failing to Find Him, by Jia Dao, is a well-known Tang Dynasty poem. The content is ‘松下问童子,言师采药去。只在此山中,云深不知处’, which means, Under the pines I questioned the boy. ‘My master’s off gathering herbs. All I know is he’s here on the mountain… Clouds are so deep, I don’t know where…’
The painting above by Fan Zeng, who is a master of Chinese culture and famous painter, depicted the poem and sold for 4,370,000 yuan at the China Guardian 2011 Autumn Auctions.
