Artworks of Catherine Klein
With Catherine Klein's work, we discover a new data: the texts, which she wrote herself, are not there to be read. Actually, the artist writes the texts she paints. She writes them entirely and she only paints the texts that she has written on her canvas. However, she doesn't substitute writing for painting, nor does she write instead of paint. She figures the letters of a text, and designs the body of characters without the intention of them being read. Writing and painting, all on canvas, expresses the poetry of Catherine Klein, who, in the footsteps of Jacques Villéglé, presents a series of paintings in relief or mixed media and graphics, for a beautiful and lyrical result that is meant to speak to us. The twenty canvases saturated with letters, words, and phrases as if sculpted in bas-relief with marble powder, sand, oil, acrylic on linen canvas.
