Jean-Pierre Raynaud, recent works

The latest works by the French artist Jean-Pierre Raynaud are exhibited at the Xin Dong Cheng Gallery for Contemporary Art. The artist who previously exhibited his famous "Red pot" in 2007, returns to China with a series of works that reflect his fascination for objects and the primary colors.

Beijing, May 18- July 30, Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art, T : 010-59789356 / 010-84599559.

Organizer : Xin Dong Cheng Gallery for Contemporary Art

The Deep

The Deep exhibition includes the largest collection of deep sea creatures that has never been presented to the public; full of very strange fish. Some animals from these abyssal depths look like they are out of science fiction movies. Surely they inspired many directors' nightmare creations? However, these creatures shine with an almost supernatural beauty.

These animals come from an environment where the water pressure is very high, where the light is very weak, and where it is constantly cold, which has resulted in the modification of their anatomy: big disproportionate eyes, very long teeth, feathers for fins, parrot beaks and bioluminescent lights are characteristic of most of them.

By shining light on this unknown fauna, the exhibition curator, Claire Nouvian, wishes to raise the public's awareness of the numerous dangers threatening the oceans and encourage us to change our behaviors so as to better protect them.

The exhibition has already been presented in Shanghai,Hangzhou, Kunming, and Guangzhou, and will continue to tour China until 2014. It is produced in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, in particular the taxidermy department that was responsible for the preparation of the animals, and has developed a special technique that makes it possible to present them in aquariums despite their high fragility.

Chengdu, May 15- October 30, Zhongxin city of Chengdu.
