2013-07-19 14:47:05

On July 10, with China's President Xi Jinping and Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan bearing witness, the vice-minister of the Ministry of Culture and the head of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Xiaojie Li, and the minister of Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, signed the Agreement on the Prevention of Theft, Illegal Excavation and Transportation of Cultural Property at the Great Hall of the People.

China and Nigeria are rich in cultural heritage and are both signatory nations of the UN Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. Under the framework of the agreement, the two governments can effectively prevent their cultural property from illegally entering other countries. The agreement will positively influence the international community to put more emphasis on the protection of cultural heritage.
