Dragon Lantern Dance, Wuyuan, Jiangxi

Wuyuan county in Jiangxi gives out the sweet smell of osmanthus. In this peaceful land, villagers weave a grass dragon, called “Burning Incense Dragon,” from rice straw and green vines and play a dragon dance in alleys. The grass dragon is sometimes as long as 300 meters. Children make a tower with bricks and tiles. They place moon cakes and fruit to worship the moon god on top of the tower. At night, children light the fire in the tower and play together through the night.
