On Sept 2, a launching ceremony of the third Arabic Arts Festival co-hosted by China’s Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States was held in the National Centre for the Performing Arts.
Ding Wei, vice minister of the Cultural Ministry; Hao Linhai, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the People’s Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region; representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television; Arab League’s ambassadors to China and diplomats from 21 countries of Arab league together attended the launching ceremony.
The third Arabic Arts Festival will open in Beijing on Sept 10. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Forum on China-Abra Cooperation, with the aim of “broadening exchanges and enhancing friendship” and based on the theme of “turning a new page with the spirit of the Silk Road”, the festival will present some new characters. First, it will be rich in content, with arts performances, forums and exhibitions. Second, it will be long term, lasting eight to 10 months. Third, it will be held in many places, including 10 provinces and municipalities. Fourth, it will have great significance, for it serves as an important part of the 2014 and 2015 China-Arab Friendship Years.
The Arabic Arts Festival is to implement the program Declaration of the Forum on China-Abra Cooperation and Action Plan of the Forum on China-Arab Cooperation and promote China-Arabia cultural exchanges. Since its founding, it has become the largest and most influential arts festival between China and the Arab world, as well as a new connection and exchange platform for the two countries.
In 2004, the Forum on China-Arab Cooperation was founded, marking the beginning of exchange and cooperation between China and the Arab world. In June, 2006, the first Arabic Arts Festival opened in Beijing and Nanjing and in June, 2010, the second Arabic Arts Festival opened in Beijing and Shanghai. In 2014, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Forum on China-Arabic Cooperation, President Xi Jinping announced at the sixth ministerial conference that 2014 and 2015 would be the China-Arabia Friendship Years. The third Arabic Arts Festival will surely be a highlight among the activities for the China-Arab Friendship Years.
