The 2014 China Movie Week kicked off on Nov 11 in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Charge d'affaires, Liu Hongyang and cultural counselor Jin Hongyue from the Chinese Embassy to Indonesia and Indonesian officials attended the opening ceremony of the Movie Week.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Liu said that movies are a unique art form loved by people. He said that movies connect different countries and peoples and promotes understanding and friendship. This event, held under the framework of the establishment of China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership is also one of the activities of the China-Indonesia Culture Year. The purpose of the Culture year is to educate Indonesian people about China, promote friendship between the two peoples and strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation.
The Indonesian officials said that the movie week provides a platform for young people to learn more about Chinese films, broadening their views. The officials said they hoped such activities would open a new chapter for China-Indonesia friendship.
The Chinese film The Grandmaster was screened at the opening ceremony. Before the screening, dances and singing performance from Indonesian students were held.
Of the 11 movies proposed by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China, five films will be presented to the Indoneisan people. China Movie Week will run until Nov 15.
