According to historical records, some 150 painters, about one-fifth of all the Ming Dynasty painters, were in Suzhou, and they formed an influential school of painting.
Chinese Buddhism and the Buddhist art were introduced from the Western Regions such as India and Afghanistan. The origin of the Buddhist painting can retrospect to the period between 6th and 5th century BC.
