An exhibition of Impression of Qinghai-Thangka Art is underway in Japan. The exhibition, co-hosted by the Japan-China Friendship Center and Department of Culture, Press and Publication of Qinghai Province, is to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.

At the exhibition’s opening ceremony on Sept 26, Si Cairen, deputy director-general of Department of Culture, Press and Publication of Qinghai Province, said that Qinghai, as one of the most important provinces of Thangka art production, possesses many great thangka masters and folk artists. Qingha thangka features varieties and a strong mass base, especially Regong thangka art of the Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and enjoys great fame around the world with its vivid local and ethnic characteristics as well as exquisite techniques.

It is the first time for Qinghai province to organize a cultural group to conduct cultural exchange in Japan since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 and the event was very significant, Si said.

The director-general of the Japan-China Friendship Center also expressed his hope to contribute more in promoting Japan and China cultural exchanges.

There are 35 pieces of thangka art works from five Chinese artists on display. The exhibition runs through Oct 19.
